Submitting The Rice Eaters to the ITC competition was a rewarding experience, especially after undertaking a major rewrite following a development workshop and a one-act production at a theater festival. I’m truly grateful to have come across this opportunity, as it provided a platform to showcase the evolution of my work and validated the effort I poured into revising the play. As a playwright from China, it means a great deal to see the voices of my fellow countrymen—particularly from my hometown—reflected and recognized. This play has been a long time in the making, and winning this competition is both an affirmation of its impact and a motivation to continue promoting it to the stage one day.
