WHEN THE SUN RISES
Blurb
Behind the façade of an urban vape shop, Sebastian, a centuries-old vampire, runs a brothel of supernatural prostitutes. We find him in the early morning outside his business waiting for the sunrise—he intends to end his immortal life. We meet two of his girls: Gina, an endearing zombie whose body is starting to deteriorate, and Sheila, a dangerously seductive succubus. We also meet the local police chief Tyson, who permits the business to operate in exchange for Sebastian’s promise to grant him vampirism, and Chase, a customer intent on self-destruction after his life takes an unfortunate turn. When Tyson and Chase arrive at Sebastian’s brothel on the same morning, the fates of our characters intertwine in unexpected ways. “When the Sun Rises” is a darkly humorous one-act play. Through Sebastian’s existential fatigue, Tyson’s pursuit of immortality, and Chase’s path to ruin, the story explores themes of mortality, moral choices, and how our relationships with others help give life meaning.
